SquareX Secures $20 Million Series A To Revolutionise Browser Security

Cybersecurity startup SquareX has announced it has closed $20 million in Series A funding, led by SYN Ventures, a leading venture capital firm specialising in cybersecurity. Existing investor Peak XV Partners, formerly known as Sequoia Capital SEA, also participated in the round.

SquareX is pioneering a new category known as Browser Detection and Response (BDR), addressing a major blind spot in enterprise cybersecurity: the browser. As businesses face increasing threats like phishing, malicious browser extensions, insider threats, and data leaks via generative AI tools, traditional security solutions have struggled to offer adequate protection without compromising usability.

SquareX’s innovative approach involves a browser extension that transforms any existing browser into a secure, enterprise-grade platform. Unlike proprietary enterprise browsers, which can disrupt user experience and productivity, SquareX’s solution integrates seamlessly, offering robust security without requiring organisations to overhaul their systems or retrain their staff.

“The browser is the new endpoint, yet it remains a major blind spot for most organisations,” said Vivek Ramachandran, CEO of SquareX. “Existing solutions often force a trade-off between security and usability. We built SquareX to eliminate that compromise, allowing users to stay protected without changing the way they browse.”

Jay Leek, Managing Partner and Founder of SYN Ventures, said the browser is now “ground zero for countless attacks,” and praised SquareX’s solution for delivering critical visibility and control directly within the native browser experience.

Peak XV Partners’ Managing Director, Shailendra Singh, noted that the firm has backed SquareX since its early days and continues to support the company’s vision and execution in tackling browser-based cybersecurity challenges.

SquareX’s Series A funding will support its growth and expansion efforts as it works to further integrate its BDR technology across enterprises globally, helping organizations shrink their attack surface without sacrificing user experience.
