CIMB Group Holdings Berhad has welcomed the successful pricing of Malaysia’s first tokenised sukuk by Khazanah Nasional Berhad, marking a significant milestone in the evolution of the country’s capital markets.
The issuance, conducted in collaboration with the Securities Commission Malaysia, represents a step forward in integrating digital innovation into Islamic finance instruments while maintaining strong governance and regulatory standards.
CIMB played a central role in the pilot as Sole Principal Adviser, Sole Lead Arranger and Sole Facility Agent, supporting the end-to-end issuance process. The bank also contributed to aligning the operational, technical and governance frameworks required to execute a tokenised structure.
The initiative highlights growing collaboration between regulators and industry players in exploring the use of distributed ledger technology (DLT) to improve efficiency, transparency and execution in capital markets. It further reinforces Malaysia’s position as a global hub for Islamic finance innovation, particularly in developing next-generation financial instruments.
Chu Kok Wei, Chief Executive Officer of Group Wholesale Banking at CIMB, said the issuance demonstrates how digital capabilities can be applied within existing frameworks in a structured and credible manner.
“Khazanah’s inaugural tokenised sukuk represents an important step forward in advancing practical applications within a controlled and credible framework. It shows how digital innovation can be explored while remaining aligned with established market practices,” he said.
He added that CIMB remains committed to working closely with regulators and partners to ensure emerging financial structures are scalable, operationally sound and aligned with market expectations—an approach consistent with the Group’s Forward30 strategy.
Moving forward, CIMB said it will continue collaborating with key stakeholders to support the responsible development of tokenised financial solutions and the broader digitalisation of financial markets in Malaysia.
