Sunway Property has become the first developer to join forces with Majlis Bandaraya Iskandar Puteri (MBIP) by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to spearhead low-carbon initiatives within the designated Low Carbon Zone at Sunway City Iskandar Puteri (SCIP). This strategic collaboration reinforces both organisations’ shared commitment to advancing the Iskandar Puteri Climate Action Plan 2030 (IPCAP 2030), with the overarching goal of creating a sustainable and eco-friendly urban environment.
The collaboration marks a strategic alignment between Sunway Property and MBIP, focusing on sustainability, innovation, and the enhancement of urban living for the township of SCIP. Together, they will implement key initiatives, including integrating smart city technologies to curb carbon emissions, exploring green architectural designs, and promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions that redefine the urban experience in SCIP.
“At Sunway Property, we are dedicated to leading the way in sustainability by introducing innovative, low-carbon solutions that align with our environmental commitments. This partnership with MBIP strengthens our efforts in building a model township that not only embraces green practices but also actively works towards achieving the goals set out in the IPCAP 2030. Our mission is clear – to create a vibrant, low-carbon city while contributing to Sunway Group’s broader vision of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050,” said Mr Gerard Soosay, Chief Executive Officer of SCIP.
The MOU further highlights Sunway Property’s commitment to the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. By championing more inclusive, resilient, and sustainable urban environments, Sunway Property reinforces its pledge to create thriving communities that prioritise sustainability and innovation for future generations.
In addition to these developments, the MOU emphasises the critical role of Communication, Education, and Public Awareness (CEPA) in fostering a low-carbon mindset among residents, businesses, and the broader community. Through public outreach, Sunway Property aims to inspire a culture of sustainability, highlighting the importance of each individual’s role in reducing carbon footprints – an integral part of Sunway Group’s long-term vision of achieving net-zero emissions by mid-century.
“This collaboration with Sunway City Iskandar Puteri reinforces our mutual dedication to building a low-carbon, sustainable future. By incorporating smart technologies and sustainable practices, we are not only reducing emissions but also improving the overall quality of life for residents. This MOU represents a key milestone outlined in the Iskandar Puteri Climate Action Plan 2030,” said Dato’ Haji Mohd Haffiz bin Haji Ahmad, Mayor of MBIP.
Beyond infrastructure improvements, the partnership will also focus on community engagement through educational programs, exhibitions, and sustainability-driven initiatives aimed at inspiring both awareness and action. The continuous evaluation of these efforts will ensure that Sunway Property and MBIP remain aligned with both local and international sustainability goals – further positioning Sunway City Iskandar Puteri as a model for the next generation of smart, sustainable cities.
This MOU also coincides with Sunway City Iskandar Puteri’s 10th anniversary celebration, marking a decade of sustainable development and innovation for the township.
