The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) has secured over RM350 million in business export opportunities at the recently concluded Sushi Tech Tokyo 2025, the region’s largest startup and innovation conference. This milestone reflects Malaysia’s growing reputation as a global digital hub and its commitment to innovation-led economic growth.
Touted as Asia’s premier startup event, Sushi Tech Tokyo attracted tens of thousands of participants and over 500 startups worldwide. The conference serves as a platform to foster open innovation and address global urban challenges through advanced technologies and diverse collaboration.
MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil said the success reinforces Malaysia’s international standing as a trusted and competitive digital economy player.
“This accomplishment is a clear reflection of the innovative spirit and resilience of Malaysian digital entrepreneurs,” said Anuar. “Our commitment to promoting Malaysia as a global digital hub is stronger than ever, and we will continue to empower our tech ecosystem to explore international opportunities.”
He added that Malaysia’s robust digital infrastructure, strategic Southeast Asian location, and government-led initiatives continue to make it a preferred destination for global tech investors and partners.
As the official Ambassador and Lead Organisation of the Malaysia Pavilion at the event, MDEC collaborated with the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Tokyo, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Selangor Information Technology & Digital Economy Corporation (SIDEC), and Cyberview Sdn Bhd.
Together, they showcased 17 high-potential Malaysian tech companies through exhibition booths, pitching sessions under the “Malaysia Tech Spotlight”, and more than 150 business meetings with international stakeholders from countries such as Thailand, South Korea, Australia, Mexico, and the United States.
Participating companies represented a diverse range of sectors including artificial intelligence, fintech, robotics, semiconductors, and quantum technology. The lineup featured, Alphaswift Industries, ALT Synergy, Bay Group Holdings, Boostorder, Collaborative Excellence, GoFluence, Hikayat Kebun, MDT Innovations, Move Robotic, MV Asia Sdn Bhd (FoneApp), Neupulse (BiiB), Pandai Education, Primary Guard, Sky-Tag Robotics, Unicom Marketing Digital, Xtractify, and Qarbotech.
A key highlight of the mission was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between MDEC and WingArc1st, a Japanese software and cloud service provider. The MoU, signed at WingArc1st’s headquarters in Roppongi, aims to enhance data capabilities for Malaysian startups and facilitate their entry into the Japanese market via Proof of Concept (PoC) initiatives and funding opportunities.
