CelcomDigi Berhad has officially appointed Albern Murty as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Group, following the conclusion of an extensive leadership search process.
The Board of Directors said the appointment comes after a comprehensive evaluation of both internal and external candidates to ensure strong leadership for the company’s next phase of growth.
Chair of the Board, YM Tengku Dato’ Sri Azmil Zahruddin bin Raja Abdul Aziz, said the Board looks forward to working closely with Albern and the management team to execute CelcomDigi’s strategic ambitions.
“This appointment reflects the Board’s confidence in Albern’s leadership as we guide CelcomDigi into its next chapter — driving future growth as Malaysia’s trusted connectivity partner, strengthening corporate governance, and continuing to build one of the best workplaces in the country,” he said.
Albern has played a key role in leading the integration of Celcom and Digi since their merger on 30 November 2022, serving as Deputy CEO and most recently as Acting CEO.
He brings more than 22 years of leadership experience in the telecommunications industry, including seven years as CEO of Digi.Com Berhad. Over the years, he has also held senior roles such as Chief Operating Officer and Chief Marketing Officer at Digi, as well as Executive Vice President and Head of Emerging Asia for Telenor Asia.
In tandem with the leadership transition, CelcomDigi also announced the appointment of Datuk Kamal Khalid as Chief Strategy, Transformation and Regulatory Officer.
Working closely with Albern, Datuk Kamal will oversee the company’s strategic and transformation agenda, drive operational efficiencies, and lead regulatory and stakeholder engagement efforts to support CelcomDigi’s long-term ambitions.
The leadership changes come as CelcomDigi continues to strengthen its position following the landmark merger that created Malaysia’s largest telecommunications company.
