Sunway Group’s 42 Kuala Lumpur (42KL) is hosting an Open Day from 1 to 2 April 2022 to offer an unparalleled educational opportunity to all Malaysians – a free 26-day coding bootcamp.
The Open Day invites all Malaysians keen to learn coding and be future-ready. No prior coding or programming knowledge is required and all Malaysians above 18 years of age and especially SPM students waiting for their results are highly encouraged to join.
Sunway Group Chief Innovation Officer and Sunway iLabs Director Matt van Leeuwen said the idea for the school is to provide alternative learning opportunities to help develop multi-disciplined talents that are future-ready.
“The digital space is evolving rapidly, and it will be hard for talents to keep pace with the changes, thus not meeting industry needs. 42KL equips students with not just coding skills but also critical thinking, problem-solving, leadership and even communications,” said Matt.
“42KL aims to help lay the foundation for Malaysia to become the leading digital economy in ASEAN and is another one of Sunway’s nation-building efforts to deliver quality education, and in line with the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These commitments continue to drive Sunway’s innovative approach to inclusive education for all,” added Matt.
The 26-day coding bootcamp, also known as a Piscine, is a prelude to an extensive one to three-year programme at 42KL. The programme focuses on peer-to-peer learning with a merit-based system, complete with an industry placement at one of 42KL’s partner companies.
Students will be able to focus on project-based learning that teaches them time management and building conceptual frameworks that can be applied to industry challenges and problem statements. Following the placement, students can also opt to specialise in their fields as well
“At 42KL, students will learn programming languages that will allow them to understand concepts, enabling them to tackle any form of language as it continues to advance. All this is done in a peer-to-peer learning environment where students can oversee their own success as well as their teammates,” said 42 Kuala Lumpur Head Jeff Sandhu.
A pertinent part of the programme is the industry placement that could lead to job opportunities with 42KL’s anchor partners, which include Sunway Group, CIMB, Roland Berger, DHL, Huawei, Carsome, Standard Chartered, Selangor Information Technology and Digital Economy Corporation (Sidec), HSBC, FWD and Tenaga Nasional Berhad.
“This programme is both beneficial to the students as well as the many anchor partners who are all delving into new opportunities available in the technology space. The economic downturn has weakened the job market, but through 42KL, we can help anyone above 18, looking to upskill, looking at venturing into a new professional landscape or just testing waters to find a job they enjoy and include the chance to gain sustainable employment,” added Jeff.
The Open Day will be held on 1 to 2 April 2022 (Friday and Saturday), 10 am to 1 pm (morning session) and 3 pm to 6 pm (afternoon session) at 42 Kuala Lumpur, Sunway FutureX, Sunway City Kuala Lumpur. Visitors will take a fun logic game (no coding skills required), get to know 42KL and the 26-day free coding bootcamp and even reserve their spot at the bootcamp.
