Leading Malaysian FinTech payment gateway, Curlec by Razorpay, announces the exit of its Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer, Zac Liew who has decided to step down from his role after seven years of leadership. This marks the end of an important chapter in the company’s journey.
After spearheading Curlec’s growth since its inception in 2018, Zac steps down to pursue new ventures, leaving a legacy of innovation and leadership in the digital payments space. Under Zac’s stewardship, Curlec grew from a homegrown fintech startup to a trusted payment gateway, playing a pivotal role in simplifying digital payments for Malaysian businesses.
Following Razorpay’s acquisition of Curlec in 2022, the company transitioned into a full-stack payment gateway, combining Razorpay’s advanced technology with a deep understanding of the Malaysian payments ecosystem. This solution helps businesses accept payments through the payment gateway, no-code tools like payment links and payment pages, and also automate payouts, allowing businesses to focus on what’s important—their customers.
“Building Curlec has been the journey of a lifetime. When I first started the company alongside my Co-founder, Steve Kucia, our vision was to redefine how businesses collect online payments in Malaysia.
“Today, I am proud to see that vision realised and integrated into a larger ecosystem with Razorpay. I can confidently say Curlec is in capable hands, and the company will continue to thrive, supported by Razorpay’s strategic guidance as it enters this new phase of growth,” echoed Zac Liew.
Zac is recognised as one of the Gen.T Asia List honorees in 2022 and a recipient of Forbes 30 Under 30 Asia (Finance & VC) in 2020, cementing his influence and contribution to the fintech industry. His leadership and innovative mindset have set a benchmark for the next generation of Malaysian entrepreneurs.
Shashank Kumar, Managing Director & Co-Founder of Razorpay shares about his experience working alongside Zac. “It’s been a privilege to be working directly with such an enigmatic leader. Under Zac’s leadership, Curlec has transformed the fintech landscape in Malaysia, serving over 3,000 local businesses. During this time, Curlec also became a member of PayNet, further strengthening its position in the industry.
“As we continue to build on his legacy, Razorpay remains deeply committed to supporting businesses in Malaysia and Southeast Asia with cutting-edge financial solutions that foster growth and innovation,” Shashank Kumar further explained.
Angad Dhindsa, Head of Razorpay Southeast Asia, has been appointed as the interim leader of Curlec by Razorpay. He will work closely alongside the local leadership team in Malaysia leveraging his expertise in business development and partnerships across the region. A full-time successor for Curlec is being actively identified to guide the next phase of growth.
Curlec by Razorpay remains committed to its vision of creating a robust digital payment infrastructure, ensuring a seamless experience for businesses and their customers.
