Disruptr: Wilson Yew Jee Seong, Chief Executive Officer of SafeTruck

Share with us on what you do and what inspired you to start the business.

  • I have the first-hand experience to have worked at a family-owned logistics company and I understood the challenges faced by the company that was posed by the conventional tracking solutions during the early days.
  • It occurred to me that the same pain points were also faced by other companies and there were lack of visibility, poor communication and resource wastage. I decided to develop a software solution that will efficiently manage all the fleet, maximize the resource utilisation, bridge all the telematics and deliver the most useful solution to the industry.
  • I set up Safe Truck Sdn Bhd in 2017 with this mission in mind and since then, the company has grown by leaps and bounds due to market acceptance.

What has the journey been like?

  • It was a challenging journey but I am thankful for the support from my family members and friends who believed in me. The journey has taught me that I must be grateful for the opportunity to lead a team of young talents to scale new heights in our business.

Biggest achievement and what is one regret that you wish you had or had not done?

  • The biggest achievement was receiving recognition and support from Cradle Fund under MoF in 2017 and Penang i4 Seed Fund in 2018. These two funds have helped to push the company to greater heights.
  • One regret I wish I had done was to get more talents to ensure the company in a better footing to compete with others. But we know during then that we need to grow carefully and get funds is another challenge.

Where do you see yourself in the next 1 year?

  • Indonesia has vast opportunities and I intend to penetrate the market by partnering with the local network companies. This, I believe will help to grow the company topline.

Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?

  • Over the next 5 years, I will work hard with my team to serve the South East Asia Market with my products.

What keeps you going to keep running the business?

  • I think the opportunities in this industry is tremendous. We just have to look for it and that is what keeps me motivated in running the business.

What is one local startup you would like to work together with and why?

  • VSure Tech Sdn Bhd. This company provides on demand insurance. I see the synergies between both companies that will bring tremendous benefits to our customers. This user based insurance is relevant to the industry and we are very excited to work with them.

Who is one founder (local or international) that you look up to?

  • Jack Ma, Founder of Alibaba Express

Why should investors invest in your startup?

  • SafeTruck has a strong management team that trust its products are ready to compete globally. The innovative development and technological advancement are two key factors in driving its products for commercialization and market acceptance.
  • The skilled workforce and the strong sales force are twin engine will help to propel the company to greater heights. Ultimately, the company focus to delight its customers and will not compromise on the quality of its products. They will work with the transportation industry to reach their maximum potential.
