Disruptr: Jaylee Ong, Chief Executive Officer of Aimsity
Share with us on what you do and what inspired you to start the business.
- With a background in Accounting and Finance, I made a life-altering decision to
venture into the world of technology and coding. Realising the transformative power of coding through self-learning, I founded this startup to provide young students with opportunities to explore the boundless possibilities that technology offers.
What has the journey been like?
- Our journey has been an exhilarating mix of challenges and fulfillment. Building from scratch is no easy feat, but with each step, we have grown and learned invaluable lessons along the way. Reflecting on our humble beginnings, the first year yielded only RM7,000 in revenue as we searched for the right business model to propel our mission forward.
Biggest achievement and what is one regret that you wish you had or had not done?
- Our greatest achievement is witnessing the remarkable growth in students who
evolve from novices to coding enthusiasts. Looking back, I have no regrets, as every experience has equipped me with the knowledge and skills needed for the present moment.
Where do you see yourself in the next 1 year?
- In the coming year, we envision expanding to other states and launching our
transformative platform. Collaborating with prestigious institutions such as Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Malaya (UM), Politeknik Balik Pulau (PBU) and Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) through our World Impactors Program, we aim to empower 7-17-year-olds. - We also hope to bring more value to the community and strengthening partnerships with
additional institutions will remain a key focus.
Where do you see yourself in the next 5 years?
- Our aspirations extend beyond borders, as we strive to establish an international
presence for our brand. We would also like to help educators by equipping them with coding skills that will enable them to uplift their students, fostering a global community of empowered learners.
What keeps you going to keep running the business?
- The growth and smiles on our students’ faces as their codes come to life fuel our
passion to continue. Being a third-generation educator, this journey is in my blood, driving me to leave a lasting impact on the future generation.
What is one local startup you would like to work together with and why?
- It is not a single local startup that we seek to partner with, but rather all startups
committed to making a positive difference and nurturing the next generation
growth. By joining forces, we can collectively shape a brighter future.
Who is one founder (local or international) that you look up to?
- Joel Neoh from Fave for his remarkable track record in building startups and his ability to adapt and innovate across diverse markets.
Why should investors invest in your startup?
- Investing in our startup means supporting education and shaping the world through
the potential of our students. With a market comprising 130 million students in ASEAN countries, the growth potential is immense, and our company has been continuously growing annually.
